  • Dementia 101: Understanding Dementia & Communicating with Confidence on October 7, 2026

Join Dr. Katie Wadland, PT, DPT, Board-Certified Geriatric Clinical Specialist and owner of Healthy Aging Physical Therapy, for an informative presentation designed to help you better understand dementia and support those living with it. This session will provide an overview of the most common types of dementia, how they differ, and the changes in thinking, memory, behavior, and communication that can occur over time. You'll also learn practical, evidence-based communication strategies to help you interact more effectively and compassionately with people living with dementia—whether they're a family member, friend, coworker, client, or someone you encounter in your community. Leave with a greater understanding of dementia, increased confidence in your interactions, and practical tools that can make everyday conversations less stressful and more meaningful for everyone involved. Instead of simply reviewing fall safety tips, you'll learn how your balance system actually works—including the important roles of your vision, inner ear (vestibular system), muscles, joints, and brain—and why changes in any of these systems can affect your stabilityThrough practical education and easy-to-apply strategies, you'll gain a better understanding of your own balance, recognize common reasons people lose stability as they age, and leave with actionable techniques to improve confidence, reduce fall risk, and stay active safely. Whether you've experienced a fall, feel unsteady, or simply want to be proactive about your health, this session will provide valuable insights to help you move with greater confidence.
